Management Team

Marios S. Kalochoritis is the Chairman, co-founder of Prothena, bringing 30 years of international experience across investing, wealth management, banking, and entrepreneurship.  Recognizing the opportunity to establish a fund management business in Cyprus, he founded Prothena leveraging the EU’s regulatory framework and the strong oversight of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).

Marios’ career spans corporate finance and investing in the United States, private banking and wealth management in Switzerland, and hedge fund management. In 2008, he co-founded a global macro hedge fund, successfully exiting in 2013. He then relocated to Dubai to launch a multi-family office serving international clients.

From 2013 to 2017, Marios served four terms on the Board of Directors of Bank of Cyprus and later managed a portfolio of equity investments for the Bank of Cyprus Group totaling several hundred million euros. Today, he remains an active investor and advisor, managing both his own capital and that of his clients.

His global experience and professional network support Prothena’s mission in identifying and evaluating investment opportunities across regions and asset classes.

Marios holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.Sc. in Finance from Louisiana State University. He has completed executive programs at Stanford Graduate School of Business, Harvard Business School, and other institutions, and is an active leadership member of YPO.

Evangelos Kalavas is the CEO, Executive Director at Prothena, a strategic financial services professional with over 25 years of experience driving strong investment performance, delivering transformative process improvements, and advancing sustainable finance. Recognized for his leadership in responsible investing, he successfully spearheaded initiatives that enabled a UK-based company to achieve net-zero carbon status.

His career spans senior roles across investment strategy, financial consultation, and portfolio management in the UK. As Head of Investments, Evangelos oversaw strategy and operations for both Shareholder and Customer Funds, where he consistently delivered above-target returns, strengthened governance, and built enduring partnerships with Boards, Trustees, and key stakeholders.

Evangelos also served as Head of Investments Development, where he directed investment research and analysis, fund oversight, and strategic development, while managing Board-level reporting and serving on key committees. He led a high-performing team, championing talent development and operational excellence, while ensuring rigorous risk management, regulatory compliance, and sustainable investment outcomes.

With deep expertise in portfolio management and oversight, investment governance, and strategic alignment, Evangelos has a proven track record of value creation and long-term growth. His technical proficiency, adaptability, and commitment to sustainability have consistently delivered impactful outcomes for customers, shareholders, and wider stakeholders.

Evangelos holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management and a B.Sc. in Actuarial Science from City University of London. He is also certified in The Trustee Toolkit issued by The Pensions Regulator. He is a certified professional, holding the CySEC Advanced Certificate.

Andreas Michalias is the Head of Portfolio Management, Executive Director at Prothena, where he leads the firm’s portfolio management function. With over 20 years of experience in the Cypriot financial services sector, Andreas combines deep expertise in portfolio construction with a strong track record in business development and institutional client management.

He has held senior portfolio management roles at two major local Cyprus banks, where he developed and presented investment strategies to institutional investors and high-net-worth clients, aligned portfolios with client objectives, monitored performance, and ensured regulatory compliance. As an Executive Director at a regulated investment group, Andreas led business development, oversaw the efficient execution of client mandates, contributed to corporate strategy, and coordinated cross-departmental projects to achieve long-term objectives.

In addition to his professional responsibilities, Andreas serves on the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE), chairs the Risk Management Committee, and leads the Pension Fund Committee. He has also served as Executive and Non-Executive Director for multiple CySEC-regulated entities, including Cyprus Investment Firms (CIFs) and Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs).

Andreas’ combination of experience, leadership, and regulatory insight enables him to identify, structure, and manage investment opportunities that align with Prothena’s mission of delivering long-term value to investors.

He holds an MSc in International Securities, Investments, and Banking from the University of Reading, ICMA Centre (UK), and a B.Sc. in Finance and Mathematics from Norwich University. Andreas is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and holds multiple professional certifications, including the Advanced Certificate of Professional Competence, AML Compliance Officer Certification, and a Certificate from the American Institute of Banking.

George Vassilaras is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of leadership experience across diverse industries, including fast-moving consumer goods, information technology, food services, healthcare, and gaming technology. Since 2023, he has served as the Group Chief Financial Officer of Delarki Group, a private investment firm specializing in creating, operating, and investing in early-stage, discretionary-spend business opportunities, particularly within the premium Food & Beverage sector.

Before joining Delarki, George held senior roles in various multinational companies, including Kraft General Foods, Danone, Gillette, and Intralot. As a management consultant, he advised clients on growth strategies and performance optimization. Notably, as General Manager of a leading foodservice company in Southeast Europe, he played a pivotal role in maintaining market leadership against global competitors. Additionally, he served as Regional Vice President for a global gaming technology leader, overseeing operations across the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.

George holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in Economics from Deree – The American College of Greece.

Manos is a co-founder of Prothena. He brings over 25 years of experience in audit, tax advisory, and business consulting. A former leader at a Big Four firm, he now drives Quant Lab’s innovative, client-focused approach, delivering turnkey solutions across diverse industries and global markets. Over the years, he has established an outstanding performance record, serving a highly demanding clientele.

He managed attestation audits related to internal controls over financial reporting, control assurance for external audits, risk assessments, and internal audits. Additionally, he was responsible for leading audit teams.

Manos holds an MSc in Accounting and Finance, as well as a B.Sc. in Accounting and Finance, both from the University of Essex.

Christos Kyriakidis is a seasoned hospitality executive with over 25 years of international experience across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He has held senior leadership roles in renowned hotel and hospitality groups, combining strategic vision with strong operational expertise.

Recognized for his “common sense in conjunction with numbers,” Christos blends analytical insight with exceptional people and relationship skills.

He holds diplomas from the Hotel Institute Montreux in Switzerland and the American Hotel & Motel Association.

Iacovos Yiakoumi is a qualified accountant and finance executive with over 30 years of experience in industry and audit practice. He has served as Group Chief Financial Officer for international companies across aviation, real estate, and investment sectors, bringing deep expertise in financial management, corporate governance, and compliance.

Known for his disciplined approach and strong leadership, Iacovos has successfully managed complex cross-border operations and advised on strategic, legal, and tax matters.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA) and holds a BA in Economics from the University of Leeds, UK.

Antonia Pachita serves as the AMLCO and Regulatory Compliance Officer at Prothena, where she is responsible for ensuring the firm’s full adherence to applicable legal, regulatory, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements. She plays a key role in maintaining Prothena’s commitment to high standards of governance, transparency, and ethical conduct.

Prior to joining Prothena, Antonia held senior AML and compliance positions within the corporate and fund administration sectors, where she gained extensive experience in regulatory reporting and the design and implementation of robust AML policies and procedures. Her work has been instrumental in enhancing compliance frameworks and mitigating regulatory and operational risks.

Antonia holds a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Cyprus and is a certified AML Compliance Officer by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).

Maro Vasiliou is the Fund Administrator at Prothena.  She is an experienced administrator with a proven track record for over 20 years hands-on experience in office management, fund administration, and executive support across global organizations in the financial services industry. Skilled in process improvement, documentation management with the utmost discretion.

Maro holds a Hospitality Management diploma and have broadened her expertise by successfully completing several regulatory seminars at European Institute of Management and Finance (EIMF) focusing on investment funds, risk management, ISO 9001:2015 certification Standard Requirements – Internal Audit Techniques, and GDPR compliance.
